Successful flight tests of ABHYAS high-speed expendable air target in Odisha

That Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Abhya’s High-Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT), developed as a target for testing missile systems, has been successfully tested in flight Integrated Test Area (ITR), off the coast of Odisha. The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), a DRDO Unit located in Bengaluru created Abhyas.

IMPORTANT POINTS:

  • That DRDO recently carried out numerous tests Abhyas in different configurations.
  • Precision demonstrations of the aircraft’s low-altitude performance were made, including extended level flight and excellent maneuverability.
  • The target aircraft was tracked by a series of tracking sensors deployed by ITRincluding radar and an electro-optical targeting system, when flown by a ground-based controller on a predetermined low-altitude flight path.

About Abhyas:

  • Abhyas– a Sanskrit word for “practice” or “pre-exercise” – provides a realistic threat situation for training with various armament systems and is built with an onboard autopilot system for autonomous flight.
  • According to that DRDOthe vehicle was started with two boosters underneath, which enable it to start quickly.
  • It features a modest gas turbine engine, allowing it to fly at highly subsonic speeds for long periods of time.
  • The target aircraft has an inertial navigation system based on microelectromechanical systems, as well as a flight control computer for guidance and control.
  • The system features a built-in radio altimeter for very low altitude flights and a data link for secure communication between the target aircraft and the ground control station.

according to a DRDO Scientist who has Abhyas system Radar Cross Section (RCS) and infrared signatures that can be used to simulate a variety of aircraft for anti-aircraft warfare training as well as tests aimed at hitting air targets.

Important findings for all selection tests:

  • Defense Minister of India: Rajnath Singh
  • Head of DRDO: G. Satheesh Reddy
