Since these women did not have much education, they had to face many difficulties even to work outside the home. So these Gujarati women planned to make and sell papads, which they could make at home. Jaswanti Jamnadas Popat decided that she and Parvatiben Ramdas Thodani, Uzmben Narandas Kundalia, Banuben Tanna, Laguben Amrutlal Gokani, Jayaben Vithlani would start making papads. She was accompanied by another woman, who was given the task of selling papads.

With a loan of 80 rupees, the women bought a papad making machine and also bought the necessary items to make papad. Initially, the women made four packages of papad and sold them to a trader. After this, the merchant asked to improve the quality of papad. At the same time, he also helped train these women on account management, marketing, etc. This group of these seven women became a cooperative system. Needy women over the age of 18 joined this. Lijjat Papad’s business had given her an annual income of 6,196 during that time and soon, thousands of women joined.
