New Delhi. Due to the epidemic, school-university studies could not be carried out throughout the year. Most of the students were taught through online education. But in the smaller cities, that is, Level Two and Three, there were many problems that went from the devices. In view of this, the online learning platform Convegenius made a new innovation.
Moving away from other edtechs, Convegenius decided to turn their existing solution into a parent-based offering, moving tablet-based learning to WhatsApp. With this, even during the spread of the virus, students could learn from home through chat teaching over the phone. Through this, Convegenius provided education to more than 1.5 crore of students in just 11 months.

Promoted the reach of edtech platforms

Viprav Choudhary, Vice President of Operations at Convenience, explains that during COVID-19, the availability of digital devices was a major bottleneck in the education of students in rural and remote areas of India. Social enterprise in the context of technological change caused by the pandemic, he said.

The move from tablet-based adaptive learning to chatbot-assisted teaching and learning has fueled the reach of edtech platforms.

Goal to reach 5 million students
Since its inception in 2014, the startup has raised over Rs 20 crore in funding from institutional investors including the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF), Benori Ventures, Enablers and Ashish Gupta, founder and trustee of Ashoka University, among others. His annual income in the fiscal year 2019-20 was Rs 18.4 crore. Despite pandemic-induced changes in the education sector, ConveGenius aims to reach 4-5 crore of students from low- and middle-income families by 2021 as part of the company’s ‘Edtech for New India (ETNB)’ mission .

Technological change has made it easier for students in this way
The ConveGenius team adopted a chatbot-based learning model by integrating the WhatsApp API into their solution and using the Messenger feature to deliver short-term information and content to students studying from home. This model was inspired by the disparity of devices (tablet/PC) that arose in the wake of the virus outbreak. In addition, there was the surprising ubiquity of WhatsApp in Indian households of all socioeconomic levels. The super friendly interface of this app has also made it the ideal solution for students to study in quarantine and their parents to monitor and participate in their children’s learning progress. Since the launch of the chat-based teaching and learning platform in May 2020, ConveGenius now reaches 15 million learners in 10 languages, with learning sessions via the WhatsApp platform reaching a weekly completion rate of 98% %.
