He made a machine to peel coconuts, the government gave a grant of 25 lakhs, now he opened his own company – GKTodayCurrentAffairs.Com

New Delhi. We all like coconut water, which is considered very beneficial for health, but it costs a lot to peel. Many have no idea how to present it in an attractive way? When KC Sejoy from Kanjani village in Thrissur, Kerala, saw this, he made a coconut peeling machine.
In this invention of Sijoy, the central government has recently given a grant of Rs 25 lakh. Sijoy, once a technician, now owns his own company. His business has been supported by incubation under the ‘Agricultural Entrepreneurs Mentoring Programme’ of Kerala Agricultural University. Also last month, his startup was selected among the top three startups. There are many other coconut peeling machines on the market, says KP Sudhir, director of Raftaar Agri-Business Incubator, Department of Agricultural Engineering (Engineering), Kerala Agricultural University. However, Sijoy’s machine is high-tech and can also peel hard coconut shells.

I used to work in Saudi Arabia, when I came back to India, I saw the problem of peeling the coconut.
Sijoy took a Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) ‘Tool and Die Making’ course and after that, he went to Saudi Arabia to work. There, he worked as a mold maker in a large industry. He returned to India in the year 2005. He saw around him that many people make their living with the help of coconut. Some grow coconuts, some sell coconuts. He told The Better India website that people who sell raw coconut have to work hard to peel it. So Sijay researched and saw if there is a machine available to cut or peel the coconut. There were some machines, but these were used only for raw coconut.

Machine made after ten years of hard work.

After nearly 10 years of research and hard work, Sijoy created a special coconut peeling machine. This machine not only peels a coconut in 40 seconds, but also cuts its light, hard skins into the size of one millimeter, which can be fed to animals as fodder. To do this, he used the knowledge from his training course and his work experience in Saudi Arabia to create a prototype of the first machine. In 2015, he filed a patent for his prototype. In 2017 he obtained the patent.

Started commercial use after making the machine, association with a supermarket
Sijoy has registered her business as ‘Cuccos Industries’. It has also partnered with several supermarkets to sell peeled coconuts. He used to buy coconut from local people and give peeled coconut at the rate of 30 rupees to the supermarket. But, after a few months, he stopped it. According to him, he wanted that in order to earn more with this machine, it was necessary to further improve it according to the market. After this, Sijoy has made some changes to the machine. Now they have installed a 750-watt motor so that 60 to 80 coconuts can be peeled in an hour. He says: “The business model is not available on the market at the moment. But when I make all the changes, I will provide some machines in the Thrissur district. For a year, I will supervise the operation of the machine, if there is any problem, I will fix it and make a final model that can be sold throughout the country.”
