The Union education minister has an important announcement for the candidates and the universities regarding the CUET 2022. The central universities in the north-eastern states and Uttarakhand have been exempted from the CUET 2022 standards. The ministry’s official statement said: “Given the operational difficulties in conducting the examination of CUET 2022, i.e. the issue of geographic conditions, hilly terrain, remote location, limited digital connectivity, infrastructure, etc., this has been decidedly central universities of the north-eastern regions viz Sikkim University, Rajiv Gandhi University, Manipur University, Assam University, Nagaland University, Tripura University, Mizoram University, NEHU and HNB Garhwal University, Uttarakhand can accept admission in the affiliated colleges in the central universities according to the past practice instead of CUET only for the year 2022-23.

Meghalaya CM Plea for Liberation of Universities

The government has made it mandatory for all center universities to consider CUET scores for admission for the 2022-23 academic year. It applied to both private and government-sponsored universities. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has written a letter asking Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan to grant Meghalaya relaxations for CUET 2022 due to the state’s lack of preparation for exams, it was an appeal from students as well from the authorities.

In his letter, the CM of Meghalaya states: “You may know that Meghalaya has 12 districts and the identified examination center for CUET is only in Shillong, which would probably transport 25,000 aspirants from all over the state. This scenario is likely to cause a great deal of anger and concern among students, particularly those from the outskirts.” He called on the government to “allow the state sufficient time to spread awareness and critical information about CUET to all students, and to them enough time to prepare.” A few weeks after receiving the letter, the CM of Meghalaya took to Twitter and thanked the Secretary of Education for exempting non-centrally funded or private colleges and state government supported universities from taking the CUET exams in 2022
