  • iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 phones banned in Colombia
  • The Colombian court has imposed a ban.
  • The company won’t even be able to advertise these phones.

New Delhi.
A Colombian court has banned the sale of the very popular Apple iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 in the country. A court in Bogotá, Colombia, prohibited Apple from selling all its devices with 5G connectivity, including the iPhone 13, iPhone 12 and iPad models with 5G connectivity.

Now Apple will not be able to have its 5G iPhones and iPads in the country. The same company will not be able to import any new stock in the country nor will it be able to advertise these products. We tell you that this prohibition has been imposed on Apple in the case of new license fees for certain standard-essential patents (SEP) related to 5G with Ericsson. Apple acknowledges that the patents are genuine, but believes that Ericsson is charging too much for them.

Prohibition of sale of existing shares
According to a report, Apple can no longer sell iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series devices, along with 5G iPad models, in Colombia. The court has also ordered the local customs authority to stop the importation of fresh stocks of these products. Not only this, Apple has been instructed to stop online and offline advertising for these iPhones effective immediately. Alongside this, the sale of devices already in stock has also been banned.

Apple cannot appeal in courts outside of Colombia
The court also imposed an injunction against Apple, which means that Apple cannot appeal to any other court outside of Colombia to pressure Ericsson to lift these restrictions. Apple in its defense said that Colombia has not yet received any 5G network and therefore it makes no sense to impose restrictions since 5G components are not yet used.

iPhone 14 series launch
Significantly, this ban was imposed on Apple at a time when Apple is preparing to launch the next-generation iPhone 14 series globally in a few months. Apple has released beta versions of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, and macOS Ventura for testing.
